what it is and how to wear it
maya is a cool mix of a shirt and short, slightly fitted tunic. with a standing collar and contrasting inner lining in its neckline and cuffs it’s fun and casual. combined with the maya signature skirt it becomes a very chic and sophisticated summer outfit for any occasion! Paired with the maya pants it can walk any mile in london, paris, or new york. the lightweight poplin cotton makes it feel and look fresh. Also great with a pair of shorts, jeans, or linen pants!

how to keep them and origin…
please wash in the machine with 30° and a gentle detergent, take the piece out very humid, stretch, hang , then ironing is not even required!
because of the intrinsic and handmade nature of my products, please allow little irregularities, slight overlaps in lines, slight variation in shades- this belongs to and makes these items exude its special charm.
this item is hand block printed with hand carved wooden blocks. depending on the complexity of the print , each color requires its own block. when the blocks are very large, the window for printing becomes very small. It can only be printed during the hottest months, in May and June before the monsoon, when the humidity level in the air is at its lowest. during the printing process the different carved blocks are layered on top of one another on five meter long printing tables and length of pre-washed and conditioned runs of cotton cloth in different counts and thicknesses, depending on the product.- when pigments start to accumulate in the carvings of the seasoned, teak blocks, they need to be re-carved and renewed in order not to lose the crispness of the design.
block printing is an ancient craft, not easily sustainable today , for it requires master craftsmen who are dedicated and passionate about their work- its a hugely skilled and labor intensive, manual process. -when the blocks are very large as is the case with this design, the window for printing is very small. It can only be printed during the hottest months, in May and June before the monsoon, when the humidity level in the air is at its lowest. after the fabrics are printed , cured and washed the pieces are sewn after my design and specifications. In jaipur, rajasthan, india , my hub and second home and one of the most creative and productive places for the making of textiles and crafts.
