this motif is an original mughal design from the 13th century. it was originally used to decorate the interior of hunting tents and pavilions for the mughal courts.
the window for hand printing with large wooden blocks is very narrow. the cloth can only be printed during the hottest months in rajasthan. in may and june before the monsoon, when the humidity is at its lowest.

please wash in the machine up to 30° and a delicate detergent, tumble only lightly, take the piece out very damp, stretch lightly and hang to dry.
this item is hand block printed with hand carved wooden blocks. depending on the complexity and colorways of the print , each color requires its own block. during the printing process it is layered on top of one another on five meter long printing tables and length of pre-washed and conditioned runs of cotton cloth in different counts and thicknesses, depending on the product.- when pigments start to accumulate in the carvings of the seasoned, teak blocks, they need to be re-carved and renewed in order not to lose the crispness of the design.

block printing is an ancient craft, not easily sustainable today , for it requires master craftsmen who are dedicated and passionate about their work- its a hugely skilled and labor intensive, manual process.
