this trouser is hand block printed with hand carved wooden blocks. depending on the complexity and colorways of the print , each color requires its own block. during the printing process it is layered on top of one another on five meter long printing tables and length of pre-washed and conditioned runs of cotton cloth in different counts and thicknesses, depending on the product.- when pigments start to accumulate in the carvings of the seasoned, teak blocks, they need to be re-carved and renewed in order not to lose the crispness of the design.
block printing is an ancient craft, not easily sustainable today , for it requires master craftsmen who are dedicated and passionate about their work- its a hugely skilled and labor intensive, manual process.
