what it is and how to wear…
i have been passionate about my signature skirts since i first started designing and producing my own block printed lines in jaipur 30 years ago. they are a wonderful add-on for every wardrobe. dress it up, dress it down, create an alice von baum look with all the other matching and interplaying items of the collection or keep it straightforward with a white t-shirt and sneakers. make it elegant, casual, fun, or just everyday practical but special. it’s an essential item for a woman who wants to own and feel her femininity without feeling frilly!
striking and flattering for every figure, 50 panels are sewn together with french seams, each panel measuring no more than 2.5 cm at the waistline then gradually widening into a width of 12 cm at the bottom.
this results in a wonderfully wide, flowing circle. a channel with a drawstring and piping detail lets you adjust your waistline and skirt width, you just pull the drawstring and distribute the pleats. there are meters of fine cord piping and a contrasting flat border detail on the hemline.
on the reverse side is a broad lining detail cut on the bias. the special thing about these skirts is that you can wear them three ways, for three different looks. reversible, for the classic look, lining inside; reversed with pleats and lining visible; or even wrapped and tucked tightly around the waist for a sexy and figure-hugging look. wrapped looks great with a little waistcoat, fitted blouse or top, or something long and loose. there is even a technique to crinkle them for a pleated effect (explained in a video).
i would love for you to play, experiment, and make them your favorite pieces -soulmates!

machine washable at 30° with a gentle detergent. take the piece out very damp, stretch, and hang, then ironing is not even necessary!
because of the intrinsic and handmade nature of my products, please allow small irregularities -slight overlaps in lines or slight variation in shades. these belong to and enable these items to exude their special charm.
this item is hand block printed using hand-carved seasoned teak wooden blocks. depending on the complexity and colorways of a print, each color requires its own block. during the printing process each color is layered separately, with a different block cut for each colorway and design. for running meters the fabric is stretched and pinned onto five-meter-long tables. when pigments start to accumulate in the carvings of the blocks, they must be re-carved and renewed in order to maintain the crispness of the design.
block printing is an ancient craft, not easily sustainable today, for it requires master craftsmen who are dedicated and passionate about their work -it’s a hugely skilled and labor-intensive manual process. after the fabrics are printed, cured, and washed the pieces are sewn after my design and specifications. made in jaipur, rajasthan, india, my hub and second home and one of the most creative and productive places for the making of textiles and crafts.
